Current Projects and Initiatives

Neighborhood-based Projects

Roosevelt Neighborhood – We have been working with residents to continue the community work of their neighborhood association, produce a quarterly newsletter, initiate numerous community projects, and develop the Roosevelt Neighborhood Resource Center.  We are currently working with residents and the Children’s Administration to increase family support networks, neighborhood leadership training events, a local time bank, and increase foster family supports.

Ferndale – We continue to work with a Ferndale leadership group to support the Ferndale Community Network and Service Cooperative that focuses on link resources to Ferndale families that need them.  This group operates a Holiday Giving Store, organizes an annual Nonprofit Exposition, and is initiating a new service center in partnership with the City of Ferndale.

Building Bridges between the Slavic and Non-Slavic Communities – We have been supporting a local group that was initiated from a Leadership Whatcom Cohort to help build supports for the Slavic community in Whatcom County and partnerships between the Slavic and non-Slavic residents.

Birchwood Neighborhood -  This year we have begun to partner with schools, the neighborhood association, and the Children’s Administration to support and connect strong local organizing efforts already taking place to improve outcomes for children and families in the neighborhood.

North Fork -  WFCN is continuing its work with Kendall Elementary School, the Slavic community, and the Children’s Administration to improve residents connections and access to services that families need to be successful.

The Network legally operates under the  501(c)(3) private nonprofit  "Whatcom County Commission on Children and Youth" and is affiliated with the Washington State Family Policy Council, a family-community-state partnership that helps prevent child abuse and neglect, youth substance abuse and supports school success and other issues concerning families.
