Legal Structure

The Whatcom Family & Community Network (WFCN) is the organization’s new name representing the merger in January of 2000 of two local organizations, the Whatcom County Commission on Children and Youth and the Whatcom County Community Network.

The Whatcom Family & Community Network is incorporated in Washington State and registered with IRS as a 501(c)(3) private, nonprofit organization.  Our tax identification number is: 91-1631944.  Doing business as WFCN, the organization is also authorized by the Washington State Legislature as the Whatcom County Public Health and Safety Network established in 1994 under Engrossed Second Substitute House Bill 2319 and functions as the local Community Mobilization Against Substance Abuse Policy Board.

Board

The Whatcom Family & Community Network is made up of twenty-three members that represent the diversity of civic and resident leadership in our community. Of these members, seven serve as the Governing Board for the non-profit and the Executive Committee for the Network. The Governing Board meets bi-monthly and oversees the operations, policies, and work plan of the organization. The full Network membership meets quarterly to hold strategic dialogue on critical issues facing our community's children, youth, and families and to shape the agenda for Network action.

Staff

WFCN employs staff to provide organizing, facilitation, and administrative support and also contracts with additional resident organizers and groups for grassroots-level work.
